Fatehpur Sikri
UNESCO World Heritage Site
Founded by Emperor Akbar in 1571, Fatehpur Sikri served as the Mughal capital for about 14 years and survives as a remarkably complete red-sandstone city. Its monuments include the 54-metre Buland Darwaza — among the loftiest gateways in the world — Jama Masjid, the marble Tomb of Sheikh Salim Chishti, Panch Mahal, Diwan-i-Khas and Jodha Bai’s Palace, blending Persian, Hindu and Jain architectural idioms.
Timings: Sunrise to sunset (approx. 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM), all days; the dargah within Jama Masjid remains open longer
Weekly closure / special viewing: Open all seven days.

How to reach: 36–40 km west of Agra city via NH-21 (Fatehpur Sikri Road); regular UPSRTC buses from ISBT/Idgah and taxis available. Private vehicles park at the base; authorised battery buses ply to the monument gate.
Facilities & visitor tips: Ticket counter near Diwan-i-Aam entrance; licensed guides available; visitors are advised to engage only authorised guides and avoid unlicensed touts.

- ADA toll: Foreign visitors additionally pay a ₹500 ADA pathkar (toll), valid the same day across Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Fatehpur Sikri, Akbar’s Tomb and Itimad-ud-Daulah; it is not levied on Fridays.
